Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday welcomed army’s decision to hand life sentence to seven of its personnel, including two officers, in connection with the Machil fake encounter killing of three youths in 2010.

“The army has handed out life sentences to 7 inc the CO in the Machil fake encounter case of 2010. This is indeed a very welcome step,” Omar tweeted. “This is a watershed moment. No one in Kashmir ever believed that justice would be done in such cases. Faith in institutions disappeared.”

“I hope that we never see such #Machil fake encounter type of incidents ever again & let this serve as a warning to those tempted to try,” he added.

Meanwhile J&K Congress President Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz also termed the army’s decision to hand life sentence to seven of its personnel, including two officers, in Machil fake encounter case of 2010 as a historic decision.

Talking to KNS he said, “Army’s decision has let whole country know that within the system of Army accused won’t be spared. It is a good decision by army after a long time. I am happy within the system army officers who were involved in Machil killings have been punished.”

“India is a democracy and nobody is above law even the Prime Minister. The verdict has made it clear that whosever does wrong in India will be punished,” he told KNS.

Prof Soz said that after recent Chattergam killings what Army’s 15-Corps commander what said has sent a message to security forces that no human right violation will be tolerated in whatsoever form.
