SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday announced that a tunnel connecting the Machil Sector to the hinterland at Z-Gali has been sanctioned under the ‘Other than Capital Acquisition’ head. The preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently underway for its inclusion in the Annual Works Plan (AWP) 2026-27.
The announcement came during the Legislative Assembly session while replying to a question raised by legislator Qaysar Jamshaid Lone.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that the Machil (Machhal) area faces heavy snowfall during winter, disrupting connectivity and creating hardships for residents. He added that an institutional mechanism is in place to ensure essential services, including healthcare and supplies, are available through advance planning during the harsh winter months.
Choudhary also noted that the construction of a Lolab–Bandipora tunnel has been requested by the local population, emphasizing its strategic significance and the potential to improve regional connectivity.
