SRINAGAR: Mohammad Maqbool Shah, Mirwaiz family loyalist for more than six decades and a staunch JK Awami Action Committee (AAC ) follower, passed away on Monday after a brief spell of illness. He was around 80.
His funeral prayers were offered at Green-Wood School Sikh Bagh in Lal Bazar, Srinagar.

Famously known as ‘Magga Chacha in political, social and journalistic circles, he was appointed in 1960’s as an assistant to president Anjumam e Nusratul Islam and Anjuman Auqaf e Jamia Masjid. He worked as an important member of the press and media wing of JK Awami Action Committee.
In a statement issued to press, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed extreme sadness and grief at the passing away of Mohammad Maqbool shah.
“His death has deeply grieved me and my family as he was a close personal associate of the Mirwaiz family for the last more than 65 years. He was a ‘one man army’- agile and dependable, always ready to do any task assigned to him, which he accomplished come what may .A resolute and spirited man his devotion was unparalleled. He will be greatly missed,” reads the statement.
