Magnitude 4.1 Earthquake Strikes Ladakh

   

SRINAGAR: A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Ladakh early Thursday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported.

The tremor occurred at 03:54:49 IST, with its epicentre located in Leh at latitude 36.722 N and longitude 74.456 E, and a depth of 150 km, as per details shared by the NCS on X.

According to scientific classification, earthquakes occur at depths ranging from the surface to about 700 km. These are categorised into shallow (0–70 km), intermediate (70–300 km), and deep (300–700 km) zones. Based on this classification, the Ladakh quake falls in the intermediate-depth category, as outlined by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
