SRINAGAR: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Longchang City in Neijiang, Sichuan province, on Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The earthquake was recorded at 29.23 degrees north latitude and 105.22 degrees east longitude, with its epicentre at a depth of 13 kilometres, Xinhua reported, citing CENC data.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage in the affected area.
The tremor comes days after a series of moderate earthquakes were recorded across Sichuan, a seismically active province in southwestern China that has experienced frequent seismic activity during 2026.
Sichuan was also the site of the catastrophic magnitude 7.9 earthquake in May 2008, which killed more than 87,000 people and was the deadliest earthquake to strike the province in more than a century.
