SRINAGAR: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the Banda Sea near Indonesia’s Maluku region on Friday, with authorities reporting no tsunami threat following the tremor.
Indonesia’s geophysics agency said the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 143 kilometres (89 miles).
There were no immediate reports of damage in the affected region.
The agency said its assessment indicated that the earthquake did not have the potential to generate a tsunami.
