Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was arrested while Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Friday, to prevent them from leading protests against the killing of a youth in Noorbagh Srinagar.

A JKLF spokesman said that a police party arrived at the Maisuma residence of Malik and arrested him and lodged at Kothibagh police station.

A spokesman of Hurriyat (M) said the Mirwaiz was placed under detention at his Nigeen residence.

A heavy contingent of the police arrived at Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz and placed him under house arrest, said a spokesman.

Mirwaiz was planning to lead a rally from Jama Masjid to Noorbagh after Friday prayers against the killing of a civilian in Noorbagh, he said.

Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik has called for a shutdown in Kashmir today.
