Violent protests followed the arresting of JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik in the South Kashmir’s Islamabad town, on Monday.

Malik, according to JKLF sources was in the town to take forward his election boycott campaign.

Local sources said that as Malik was arrested in the Chini Chowk area, angry youth pelted stones on police resulting in the tension.

The shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in and around Lal Chowk Islamabad however, the situation returned to normal soon.

Sources said that Malik and his associates were taken to local police station. Police sources said that it was a preventive detention and the arrestees will be freed later in the day.

Pertinently, Hurriyat Conference (G), Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir and Jammu Kashmir Liberation front have intensified their poll boycott campaign.
