SRINAGAR: Police have solved the sensational and brutal incident of double murder on Tuesday within hours with the arrest of main accused who axed his younger brother and his wife to death over ‘land dispute’ in village Marheen of Kathua district.

Quoting senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Ramesh Kotwal newspaper The Times of India reported that: “Kathua Police in a prompt action solved double murder case with arrest of accused arrested and recovery of weapon of offence (Dhrat a sharp edged weapon).”

“Today an information was received through a reliable source at PS Rajbagh that one person namely Raj Kumar son of Late Bhagat Ram of Chak Wazir Labzoo, Marheen has brutally murdered his younger brother Naresh Kumar (32 ) and his wife Arti Devi (24),” he said.

Police after receiving the information registered a case FIR No 232/2022 u/s 302/ IPC at PS Rajbagh.

Acting swiftly, a police team headed by SDPO Border Pankaj Soodan alongwith SHO P/S Rajbagh & IC PP Marheen rushed to the spot and took custody of bodies and shifted them for autopsy at Government Medical College, Kathua.

SSP Kathua Kotwal said that with the help of technical assistance as well as sincere efforts the police team was able to arrest the accused person namely Raj Kumar within hours who has fled from the spot after commiting double murder.

SSP Kathua saaid, “Meanwhile the Police team based on evidence collected from the spot and information gathered from local sources, rounded up the said accused who after sustained questioning confessed his crime while further investigation has been taken up.

“Land dispute is stated to be the cause of brutal crime,” TOI quoted SSP Kathua as having said.
