The suspect was identified as Siraj Nabi Parray, a resident of Archanderhama, Magam, in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Officials said scrutiny of his social media account revealed posts, images and other digital material allegedly carrying radical and anti-national overtones. The material reportedly included radical narratives, glorification and projection of individuals associated with terrorism, extremist viewpoints and content that could influence or radicalise impressionable persons.

The suspect was subsequently produced before the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, following which proceedings under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated against him.

On the orders of the Executive Magistrate, Parray was remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, where he will remain from August 8 to August 17, 2026.

CIK said further examination of the digital device and related social media activity was underway to establish the nature and extent of the alleged online activity, identify the sources and dissemination of the material, examine associated accounts and contacts, and determine any linkages requiring further investigation.

The agency also urged the public, particularly parents and young social media users, to exercise caution and use online platforms responsibly.

CIK advised users against sharing or forwarding material that glorifies terrorism, promotes extremist views, encourages violence or hatred, or attempts to influence or radicalise others. It also asked users to avoid interacting with suspicious accounts or unknown individuals circulating such content.

The agency urged people to report suspicious or extremist material on social media to the police rather than forwarding or further circulating it.
