SRINAGAR: The police on Sunday said they arrested a man for attempting to bribe the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Lalpora in Kupwara, in exchange for the unlawful release of a seized JCB vehicle.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “The JCB was earlier intercepted during routine patrolling and area domination exercises. Upon inspection, it was found to be operating without valid documents, and the driver was unlicensed. The vehicle was accordingly challaned and taken into custody under legal provisions.”
“Talib Peer, son of Abdul Rashid Peer, resident of Lolab, approached the SHO’s office and offered a bribe to secure the vehicle’s release. He was apprehended on the spot. A case under FIR No. 33/2025, Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, has been registered at Police Station Lalpora. Further investigation is underway,” police said.
