SRINAGAR: Police in Ganderbal on Tuesday said they have secured a conviction in a rape case registered in 2017, with the accused sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal.
The accused, Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Abdul Samad Lone, a resident of Pethpora Chattergul, was convicted under FIR No. 27/2017 of Police Station Kangan, registered under Sections 376 and 451 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
According to a police statement, the case originated from a complaint lodged on April 13, 2017 by a woman who alleged that the accused forcibly entered her house and raped her, resulting in pregnancy.
Following a detailed trial and examination of evidence, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing the convict to a decade in prison along with a fine of Rs 1,00,000.
The prosecution was led by Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad in the Sessions Court Ganderbal, representing the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said the conviction reflects the strong commitment of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies to delivering justice in crimes against women.
