Clashes erupted in Soura area of Srinagar on Friday after congregational Friday prayers.

Reports said that clashes erupt after hundreds of people participated in the funeral prayers in absentia of scholar rebel Manan Wani who was killed along with his associate in a gunfight with government forces on Thursday in Shatgam village of north Kashmir’s Handwara town.

They said that scores of people assembled after offering congregational Friday prayers in Jinab sb Soura and other mosques and offered funeral prayers in absentia to the slain militants.

Immediately after the absentia prayers, reports said, that youths marched towards main market Soura where forces deployed in strength in the area fired tear gas to foil the protests, triggering intense clashes.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir to pay homage to Wani.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for a shutdown today across Kashmir.
