The class work at the main campuses of the University of Kashmir shall remain suspended on Friday, the authorities have said.

The decision has been taken in wake of the militant killings, which included PhD scholar  Mannan Wani, in a gunfight with the armed forces in Shatgund village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“This is for the information of all the concerned that due to the prevailing conditions in the valley, the class work for October 12 in main campus and satellite campuses shall remain suspended,” read a notice issued by deputy registrar, academic affairs of the varsity.

Scholar turned militant, Manan Wani of Tikipora Sogam, and his associate Ashiq Hussain Zargar of Tulwari Langate were killed in a gunfight in Shatgund on Thursday.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik has already called for a shutdown on Friday in protest over the killing of Wani.
