Police on Thursday arrested seven gamblers from the Srinagar city and recovered stake money from their possession.

The spokesman said that a police party of Police Station Lal Bazar arrested a group of seven gamblers near Badamwari area of Lal Bazar in Srinagar and recovered stake money of Rs 14,800 and playing cards from the gambling spot.

A case FIR No 73/2018 under section 13 Gambling Act was registered and investigations have been taken up.

Meanwhile, Police in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district arrested three bootleggers and recovered a huge quantity of a contraband substance from their possession.

The spokesman said that during naka checking at Railway bridge Arwani  Bijbehara, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara apprehended three suspected persons. During their search, a huge quantity of contraband Codeine bottles and one kilogram of Bhung was recovered from their possession.

The bootleggers were identified as Wajid Ahmad Zarger Son of Abdul Gani Zarger, Waseem Ahmad Hajam Son of Abdul Rashid Hajam, Sartaj Ahmad  Lone Son of Ghulam Mohammed Lone, all residents of Rang Mohalla Maspuna Pulwama.

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Bijbehara and further investigations are going on.
