Muslim League chairperson and Hurriyat (g) senior leader Masarat Alam Bhat was Thursday shifted to Shaheed Gunj Police Station from district jail Baramulla, sources said.

He was languishing in district jail Baramulla since the high court quashed his Public Safety Act (PSA).

On Wednesday, the Court of City Magistrate, Srinagar issued bail in favour of Masarat in a case under FIR No 59/2010.

Masarat is undergoing detention since 2010 after he spearheaded the uprising by issuing protest calendars.

A senior advocate said that the city magistrate issued bail Wednesday and directed Masrat Alam’s release.

“We are going to produce the bail orders to jail authorities and hope Masarat saheb is released,” a Muslim League spokesperson said.
