SRINAGAR

After the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Central Government was neither informed nor consulted about Masrat Alam’s release, the state BJP MLAs have decided to meet the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

According to BJP insiders, the Party MLAs will be holding a meeting with CM Mufti over the release of top separatist leader Masarat who was released on March 7.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh earlier making a statement on the issue said the Centre has sought clarifications from the Jammu and Kashmir government on Masrat’s release.

He informed the Lower House that Masrat has been granted bail.

Masrat was released from Baramulla prison following the new Jammu and Kashmir government’s announcement to free political prisoners who do not face criminal charges.

Masrat is the chairman of Muslim League, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani. Masrat was undergoing detention since October, 2010.
