SRINAGAR: A massive forest fire erupted in the wooded expanse of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, prompting the Indian Army to initiate an operation alongside other security agencies to curb the blaze.
The incident occurred near the Dera Ki Gali area, imperilling lives and infrastructure during the early hours of Sunday.
The local Army unit promptly responded to the situation, swiftly launching an operation to bring the fire under control, collaborating with other security agencies. According to officials, the fire posed a significant threat to both people and structures in the region.
In a statement, the Defence PRO, Jammu, acknowledged the timely and effective intervention of the Indian Army, stating, “Prompt and speedy response of the Indian Army saved many lives and infrastructure when a massive forest fire broke near Dera Ki Gali and endangered civil and Army infrastructure. With coordinated and synergistic efforts of civil agencies and security forces, the fire was brought under control,” as reported on X.

A brief video posted by the Army on X depicted troops actively involved in extinguishing the flames. Subsequent assessments will be conducted to evaluate the extent of damage inflicted upon the forest infrastructure as a result of the fire.
