The gunfight between militants and forces in  Lethpora area of Pampore in Pulwama district has ended with the death of a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant, police said on Monday.

They added that army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation in Hatwara, Letpora.

Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said on the based on specific intelligence of presence of a militant in the area of Hatwar.

He added that “during the operation, the mastermind of the Sunjawan militant attack and Lethpora militant attack Jaish e Mohammed operational commander Mufti Waqas, Cat A++, has been eliminated in a surgical operation.”

“There have been no Civilian casualties or collateral damage. This has resulted in a major dent to the designs of JeM as after elimination of their earlier operational commander Noor Mohammad Tantray in the same area on December 17, his successor too has been killed,” he added.
