Maintaining that infrastructure is key to development and catalyzing industrial growth, the Advisor to Governor, Kurshid Ganai Friday said J&K should take cue from other states and countries with similar agro-climatic conditions to augment industrial infrastructure in the State in tune with its environment.

The Advisor was speaking at a seminar titled “Sustainable Infrastructure – A Key Enabler” organized by JK Chapter of Consortium of Indian Industries (CII) in Jammu today.

Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu, Dr Ashok Aima, Commissioner Secretary Finance, Naveen Kumar Choudhary, Secretary Transport, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Chairman CII, Northern Region, Srikanth Somani, Vice Chairperson CII Northern Region, Rumjum Chatterjee, President CII, JK Chapter, Sheikh Imran, academicians, intellectuals and industrialists were also present on the occasion, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Advisor while referring to the initiatives being undertaken by the Government to boost the industrial sector said the new Industrial Policy, would be comprehensive in nature encompassing all the requisite parameters needed for catalyzing industrial activity besides being pro-entrepreneurs. He said due care has been taken to incorporate the suggestions of various stakeholders including CII in the new Industrial Policy.

“The New Industrial Policy would benefit all the three regions of the state and due care has been taken to ensure that every point-of-view is incorporated in it making it a holistic policy framework,” he maintained. He said necessary measures have already been undertaken for setting up new industrial estates in the State besides augmenting the already existing ones.

Ganai said PPP mode should be adopted to augment industrial sector in the state. “We should also be focusing on the IT sector as it has huge potential in J&K in view of the climatic conditions and other related things besides the endeavour should also be on setting up of electronics and related industries,” he said.

Complimenting the organizers for organizing the event, the Advisor said such events are essential for the exchange of ideas on how to improve the industrial scenario besides introducing new innovations for its sustainable development and growth.

Fruit growers call on Advisor, seek timely supply of fertilizers, fungicides
Fruit growers called on Advisor to Governor in Jammu on Friday and sought timely supply of fertilizers, fungicides.

Earlier, the Advisor met a deputation of Fruit Growers Association of Kashmir and discussed various issues confronting the horticulture sector. Secretary Agriculture M A Bukhari, Director Agriculture Jammu, S S Jamwal, Managing Directors of HPMC & HP&M, Director Finance and other senior officers of the department were present on the occasion.

The Advisor directed the officers to ensure that the orchardists and people associated with horticulture sector get the timely supply of the fungicides; fertilizers and other related things so that they do not face any inconvenience. He said the officers should maintain close liaison with them in order to get the first hand information about the problems being faced by them and the remedial measures to be taken for addressing these.
