SRINAGAR: In a significant development, the Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu and Kashmir, Babila Rakwal, has issued an order increasing the maternity leave entitlement for female contractual employees.
In supersession of all previous orders on the subject, the order states that female contractual employees under NHM, J&K, are now entitled to 26 weeks of paid maternity leave for up to two living children. Notably, not more than eight weeks of the entitlement shall precede the date of expected delivery.
The new entitlement comes into effect from August 5, 2023, and replaces any previous orders on the matter. The move aims to provide enhanced support to female contractual employees during the crucial period of maternity.
