Felicitating the students who qualified the Matriculation examination, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Tuesday said other students, especially those from the Government schools, should follow the path of their meritorious fellows from the educational institutions in the private sector.
Talking to media-persons on the sidelines of the prize distribution ceremony for the Cross Country Run organized by the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh, Srinagar, the Minister while commenting on the results declared by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) said the meritorious students have not only brought laurels to their families but their alma-maters as well.
“Although I would have personally liked the students of the Government-run schools to bag the top positions, but due credit must go to the private educational institutions, especially the one from Awantipora, Pulwama which has bagged the first two positions,” he said and added that another heartening thing to note is that the first seven positions have been bagged only by girls.
Akhtar said the government-run schools in the State have highly qualified and talented human resource, “only thing needed is the motivation and encouragement, to bring about the much-needed turn around in the academic environment.”
He said various initiatives are being taken by the Government to encourage excellence among the children. “Dedication to the Government’s vision and quality education is our main focus with constant monitoring and mentoring, uncompromising academic quality and individual attention to students as the guiding principles of our new initiatives in the education sector,” Akhtar said and expressed optimism that in the coming years, the students of the Government-run schools would be seen occupying the top positions in the merit list.
The Minister also felicitated the government schools whose students have performed well in the Matriculation results. He said the Education Department would reach out to such well-performing government schools with additional facilities to encourage them to excel further in academics and have better results.
Pertinently, the Class 10 board exams in the state were held between 2 and 12 March year.
