MBBS Courses at AIIMS Awantipora Likely from July 2026

   

SRINAGAR: MBBS courses at the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora are expected to commence from July 2026, while Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient (IPD) services are likely to become operational by the end of the same year, the Executive Director of AIIMS, Dr S Mohanty, informed a Legislative Assembly committee on Monday.

The update was provided during a meeting of the House Committee on Petitions held at the Assembly Complex in Srinagar. The committee met to review the progress of the AIIMS Awantipora project, with Chairman Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah presiding. Legislators Mushtaq Guroo, Salman Sagar, Waheed u Rehman Para, Mian Mehar Ali, and Thakur Randhir Singh were also in attendance.

The committee conducted a detailed review of the infrastructure development, procurement of equipment, workforce recruitment, and related aspects of the project.

Chairman Shah stressed the need for strict adherence to project timelines, calling AIIMS Awantipora a “prestigious and vital project” for the people of Kashmir. He directed authorities to accelerate the pace of remaining works to ensure timely completion.

He further emphasised that all services, including OPD and IPD, must be commissioned simultaneously to provide comprehensive medical facilities from the outset. The committee plans to carry out an on-ground inspection of the project site to assess the quality and progress of the work.

During the meeting, members also reviewed other matters raised through public petitions. They highlighted the importance of serious consideration and timely redressal of grievances submitted by citizens.

The Chairman instructed all concerned departments to submit detailed reports on the issues flagged, warning that any delays would be considered non-compliance.
