Greater Kashmir carried the headline “Gruesome: Kashmir Gutted, Kashmiris Grieving” in white, accompanied by a red subtext reading, “26 killed in deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.” The newspaper also featured an editorial titled “The massacre in the meadow – Protect Kashmir’s soul,” reflecting on the broader impact of the attack on the region’s image and daily life.

Several other newspapers published comparable messages, reflecting on what they called one of the most difficult and distressing days the Valley has experienced in recent times.

Rising Kashmir, Kashmir Uzma, Aftab, and Taimeel Irshad, also altered their usual layouts, opting for blacked-out front pages to reflect the gravity of the situation. Headlines were printed in white or red, conveying both mourning and condemnation.

Rising Kashmir used the headline “TERROR STRIKES PAHALGAM,” with a subheading noting the deaths of 27 civilians. The design featured a graphic element replacing the letter “O” with a depiction of a gunshot wound.

Protests were held across Kashmir to denounce the killings. Government offices observed two minutes of silence in remembrance of the victims. Traders, students, and people from various backgrounds participated in demonstrations from morning till evening, as normal life came to a standstill across the Valley.
