Presiding over the first cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti sounded assertive. She told her council of ministers that the two vacant positions in her cabinet could become five if the ministers do not perform.

Ms Mufti, who took over as the first women chief minister of the state Monday morning, flagged her priorities. She said she will have zero tolerance to corruption. “Even if I get a minor complaint against any of you, I will take no time in acting against you,” an official who attended the meeting said.

Asserting that her government’s focus would be on development, Ms Mufti asked her ministers to be prompt in disposal of files. She, in fact, hinted that the government will be fixing a timeline for disbursal of files.

Besides, Chief Minister said that all the Union Government Sponsored Schemes would have a nodal officer taking care of them. These officers will be the main linkages with the donor departments at the Union government level.

In her 30-minute long meeting, Ms Mufti talked about giving push to e-governance. She said it reduces the chances of corruption and helps make processes transparent.

The most important agenda of the meeting, according to sources, was to put on record the contribution of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the state and the nation. The cabinet put on record his personal integrity and insisted it should inspire the politicians the civil servants of the state.
