Despite being ‘pressured’ by Governor on Government formation, Peoples Democratic Party president Monday said that before forming the government with BJP, she wanted the union government to take confidence building steps for the region.
Reports said that Mehbooba Mufti who was called by Governor NN Vohra over government formation row reached the winter capital Jammu on Monday morning. Before meeting the Governor, former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Dr Nirmal Singh visited her at Guest House where she was staying. Reports said that both the leaders had an hour long meeting. However, Nirmal Singh told reporters that the meeting was informal and it was a courtesy call. “It was a cordial meeting and BJP is confident to form the government again in the state,” Singh said. This was the first time when any BJP leader met Mehbooba Mufti after the demise of her father.
Mehbooba Mufti met Governor NN Vohra and both had a formal meeting over government formation. Sources told CNS that both discussed the way forward about government formation in the state. Mufti came out of the meeting and said that she wanted the central government to take confidence building measures for Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti expressed indecisiveness on the issue and also refused to give any time frame for the final decision. Mehbooba Mufti told reporters that she wanted Bharatiya Janata Party’s assurance in commitment to help carry out the late Mufti Muhammad’s vision for Jammu and Kashmir. “It’s not about the BJP and PDP. We need measures to give the new government a fillip,” Mufti said, adding that she feared she did not enjoy the goodwill that her father did to be able to get people to accept unpopular decisions.
“Governor sahab wanted to know where we are on the government formation. I don’t have that vision which Mufti sahab had; neither have I had the experience right now. Mufti Sahab used to say he didn’t join hands with Modi ji, he joined hands with the people who elected Modi ji. Before formation of new J&K Government, I want central Government to take some confidence building measures for the region,” she said.
