SRINAGAR: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti, on Thursday accused the BJP government of empowering proxies in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that “The saffron party does not want the voice of Kashmiris to reach the Parliament.”

Addressing reporters in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleged that the Ministry of Home Affairs, under Amit Shah’s leadership, intends to manipulate voter slips to retrain the authentic voice of Kashmir in Parliament.

“BJP wants to silence the voice of the PDP. Now, the people of Jammu and Kashmir only have the right to vote to express their desires. Late Vajpayee Ji had restored people’s trust in the voting right, but the current central government is trying to interfere with it while empowering proxies in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba said.

“The ultimate goal of the Centre is to suppress the genuine voice of Kashmir. The government aims to empower their proxy parties here that emerged after 2019 by breaking up the PDP. They intend to achieve this by tampering with voter slips, as they do not want the true voice of Kashmir to reach Parliament,” she added.

Mehbooba also remarked, “All promises made by the country in 1947 were illegally abrogated in 2019, and subsequently, the entire Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a jail. Even my passport and those of my family members were restricted, and my official residence was taken away.” (KNS)
