SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party(PDP) President and the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, on Wednesday called for unwavering support to the upcoming Amarnath yatra and said that people irrespective of their religious beliefs should come forward and contribute towards making the Yatra a success.

Upholding the sanctity of Amarnath Yatra, Mehbooba Mufti while speaking at the meeting said, “This annual pilgrimage holds immense religious significance for Hindus and for centuries has been an integral part of the cultural fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.”

“The Amarnath Yatra serves as a testament to the composite culture and coexistence that India is known for. It represents the harmonious blend of diverse religious beliefs and practices, where people from different faiths come together to express their devotion and respect for one another. This unique tradition showcases the enduring spirit of unity and brotherhood that defines the ethos of Jammu and Kashmir,” she added.

Mehbooba said that the role of Muslims has been pivotal in organizing and facilitating the Amarnath Yatra.

“The hospitality, selflessness, and dedication exhibited by the local Muslim population has been instrumental in ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for the pilgrims. Their unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Yatris reflects the values of inclusivity, tolerance, and communal harmony that define the Kashmiri society”, she added.

In light of the upcoming pilgrimage, Mehbooba Mufti directed all her party leaders and workers especially those from South Kashmir & Ganderbal to extend their full support and assistance in making the Yatra comfortable and a memorable experience for the Yatris.

She urged them to “provide all possible help and ensure the smooth facilitation of the pilgrimage, including arrangements for accommodation if needed, refreshments, and most importantly the sense of security to Yatris.”

She further added that, “PDP firmly believes that the Amarnath Yatra serves as a powerful symbol of unity and coexistence and it is committed to preserving and promoting the spirit of brotherhood and inclusivity that it represents.”

In her appeal to the people of J&K she said that people irrespective of their religious beliefs should come forward and contribute towards making the Yatra a success.

“Together, we can create an environment of peace, harmony, and mutual respect, and showcase the true essence of the Kashmiri culture to the world”, she said.

Mehbooba Mufti also urged the LG administration to create a balance between facilitating the Yatra and not disturbing the day-to-day lives of common people.

“While making all the necessary arrangements for the Yatris, the administration must keep in mind that the local population, especially in South Kashmir and District Ganderbal is not unnecessarily harassed in the name of security. There’s also a need for adequate measures, facilitating the easy movement of patients on the highway or other routes designated for Yatris as previously, we witnessed patient casualities and pregnant ladies getting stuck on road due to the Yatra movement”, said Mufti.
