SRINAGAR: The J&K National Conference Vice President, Omar Abdullah, stated that it is an unfortunate reality that August 5, 2019, would not have been possible if the J&K National Conference had not been weakened.

He made these comments while addressing a special meeting of the party’s North Zone functionaries at Drang Tangmarg today.

Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, political advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, North Zone President Javed Dar, party leaders, DDC members, along with provincial level office bearers and leaders of the North Zone, attended the meeting.

During the extensive session, discussions revolved around party activities, programs, people’s issues, and future plans in North Kashmir, with participants expressing their viewpoints. They elaborated on the challenges and concerns they face, and party-related matters were thoroughly deliberated.

Omar Abdullah attentively listened to all participants and, in his concluding address, encouraged them to ensure that the mass reach-out campaign reaches every household in their respective areas. “Since 1953, the people of Delhi have continuously attempted to weaken the National Conference, seeking ways to destroy it. Despite countless efforts and conspiracies, the National Conference and its symbol, the plough, remain deeply embedded in the hearts of the people here,” he said.

He lamented the lack of communication between the government and the people in Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Decisions are being made without involving the actual stakeholders. Whether it’s related to ration, installation of smart meters, increased electricity fees, or employment opportunities, there is a crisis prevailing everywhere. The current rulers are more focused on grandstanding and superficial PR activities. The ground reality contradicts their claims.”

Furthermore, he added, “Where is the promised development? Where are the hundreds of thousands of jobs? Crores of rupees were squandered in extravagant displays under the pretext of G20. This is not a hidden fact, and one day, a commission will be established to uncover those responsible for wasting public funds. Immediately after the departure of G20 guests, all ongoing projects were abandoned.”

Regarding the delay in conducting the Assembly Elections, Omar Abdullah remarked, “If the situation in Kashmir is suitable for hosting G20, then why not hold assembly elections? If it is favorable for DDC, panchayat, local body, and parliament elections, why are legislative Assembly elections being withheld? The truth is that the BJP finds the situation unfavorable for them, as they know an electoral defeat awaits. Hence, they are cowardly hiding behind the Election Commission.”
