SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti, has extended Eid Al-Adha greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
In her statement, Mufti called for reflection on the values associated with the occasion and urged the people to uphold unity, peace, and mutual understanding. She appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark Eid with a humanitarian gesture by ordering the release of Kashmiri youth detained on mere suspicion, particularly after the Pahalgam attack.
She said the joint condemnation of the incident by different political groups reflects a shared stand against violence. “It is time to show statesmanship and compassion—especially towards those languishing in jails across the country without serious charges,” she said.
Mufti added that prolonged detentions deepen mistrust and create further distance between the Centre and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
She said Eid should serve as a moment of healing and reconciliation.
In her statement, Mufti also welcomed the launch of the Vande Bharat train connecting Kashmir to Jammu, calling it a step that will ease travel and improve regional connectivity.
