SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti visited AABYARI, a restored heritage space in ShereKhass, Maharajgunj, Srinagar, and highlighted the need to preserve the city’s historic neighbourhoods, architecture and cultural traditions.

AABYARI, restored by Iqbal Shah, preserves elements of Srinagar’s traditional architecture and reflects the social and cultural history associated with the old city, according to details shared during the visit.
Mufti said heritage preservation should extend beyond the physical conservation of old structures to include the traditions, craftsmanship, stories and memories associated with them.
During her visit, she also recalled memories of her father and his last tour of ShereKhass, saying the historic character of the area brought back memories of an earlier period.
Mufti described heritage as a link between generations, saying historic spaces should be preserved so that future generations can experience and understand the cultural legacy they inherit.
The visit also drew attention to the preservation of Srinagar’s historic neighbourhoods and traditional structures as living cultural spaces rather than merely remnants of the past.
