Expressing dismay over the continued closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway, President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and MP Mehbooba Mufti Saturday impressed upon the BEACON authorities to expedite work to reopen the highway at the earliest.
She in a statement also urged the Union Ministry for Transport and Highways to expedite work on construction of alternate highway to end Kashmir’s pestering connectivity problem. She also urged the Government to provide rations and other essentials the people trapped on the highway.
Mehbooba also demanded upgradation of other roads connecting Kashmir with Jammu region, including Mughal Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road. She said given the miserable condition of the present highway, development of alternate road links to Kashmir has become imperative.
