Locals of Palhalan, Friday evening alleged that police and forces ransacked the house holds, smashed the window panes of residential houses and even went on to burn bull carts and carts in the area.

Reports said that people gathered after Friday prayers and started protesting against the arrest of Abdullah Nasir. Sources said that Abdullah was arrested in Sopore.

They added that intensive stone pelting amidst teargas shelling by forces started as the news about the arrest of Abdullah reached Palhalan.

Abdullah is an active worker of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

A youth, Nisar Ahmad Bhat was arrested yesterday since then the protests in the area are going on.

The protesters started pelting stones on forces and in retaliation police and CRPF went on rampage and burnt bull carts and carts etc, local sources said. They added that forces smashed window panes of residential houses also.

Many people were injured during the battles between the protesters and forces.

Police sources however denied the allegations saying the cops showed restraint despite severe stone pelting on them.

A statement issued by police about the situation in the valley claimed that it remained normal throughout the day. “However, isolated minor stone pelting by some miscreants was reported after Friday prayers from Saraf Kadal Srinagar, Sopore Chowk and Bandipora,” the statement said adding  “No one was hurt, till reports last came in.”
