A mentally-challenged man was shot dead on Sunday night when he entered the security area of an Air Force station in Budgam district has been identified as Syed Habibullah, a resident of Soibugh village.
Local sources confirmed the death of Habibullah, a resident of Astanpura locality of the village. They said that the deceased had left his home yesterday.
In a statement, earlier a police spokesman said the mentally challenged man crossed the security fence and came close to the station perimeter wall. Even after the repeated warning from the sentry, the man did not stop. The sentry fired some warning shots in the air but the individual did not stop sentry fired towards him.
“Spot examination revealed that the individual of about 50-55 years of age who appears to be mentally challenged has died in the incident. The person being identified is not wearing footwears, is without proper winter clothing and has no identity card.”
