Army on late last night shot dead a mentally unsound person in south Kashmir’s Shopian district after he, according to police, crossed the security fence of an Army camp located in Puhnoo village.
An official said that at around 3 am an unidentified person crossed the fence of Pahnoo army camp and came close to Camp wall.
“Despite repeated warnings from the sentry the individual didn’t stop. The sentry of the post-fired in the air first but the said person didn’t stop to walk towards Camp. “The sentry fired towards him,” he said.
The slain man was identified as Rayees Ahmad, son of Abdul Hameed Wani of Begam Kulgam. He is said to be mentally challenged.
In this regard, Police has registered a case.
