SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department on Friday forecast light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds at scattered locations across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, cautioning that brief weather disturbances may affect several areas.
According to the seven-day outlook, weather is expected to remain mostly dry on May 15, though thundershowers may develop in parts of the Union Territory during the late afternoon, evening and night. Similar conditions are likely on May 16, with generally dry weather in the morning followed by the possibility of thundershowers later in the day and night.
Mostly dry conditions are expected on May 17 and May 18, although isolated locations may experience brief thundershowers during the late afternoon or evening hours.
A relatively more active spell is forecast for May 19, when thundershower activity may commence from the morning hours, though any precipitation is expected to be short-lived.
Between May 20 and May 21, dry weather is likely to dominate, with only isolated chances of thundershowers.
Officials have also warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in some areas, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Brief spells of intense rain and isolated hailstorms cannot be ruled out.
Authorities have advised residents, tourists and travellers to remain cautious, especially in hilly regions and near water bodies, as sudden weather changes may affect road movement, boating and outdoor activities. People have also been urged to avoid open areas during lightning activity and to adhere to official weather advisories before undertaking travel to tourist destinations.
