SRINAGAR: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that the NEET Undergraduate examination will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from next year, following allegations of a paper leak in the recently cancelled exam.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Pradhan said the government maintains “zero tolerance towards malpractice” and the shift from OMR-based assessment is intended to strengthen the examination system and prevent future irregularities. He said complaints had been received after similarities emerged between a circulated “guess paper” and the actual question paper.
The Minister stated that the NEET UG 2026 examination held on May 3 was cancelled after preliminary inquiries indicated that the paper had allegedly been leaked under the guise of study material. He added that the re-examination has been scheduled for June 21.
Pradhan confirmed that the case has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is probing the alleged leak network and possible insider involvement. He also cautioned against misinformation circulating on social media and assured that stricter security protocols will be enforced in future exams.
The announcement follows nationwide concern among students and parents over examination integrity, with demands for stronger safeguards and reforms in the testing system.
