Meteorological Department has predicted normal snowfall on the intervening night of January 29 and 30. “There will be normal snowfall in the plains while heavy snowfall is expected in higher reaches,” Director MeT Sonam Lotus told CNS.

He said that fresh snowfall in Valley is expected on account of the Western Disturbance (WD) that will influence weather across North India including Kashmir Valley. “While a weak Western Disturbance has already given scattered rain over J&K, the approaching Western Disturbance is likely to be more active and give widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and Saturday. Snowfall is most probably expected during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, however, it may start on Friday itself,” Lotus said.

“Although the snowfall may be normal yet we advise people to be cautious and prepared.  During next two days, maximum temperature across Kashmir will decrease but will not lead to severe cold day conditions,” he said.
