SRINAGAR: Most areas of the Kashmir Valley received rainfall on Friday, with the Meteorological Department predicting that the wet conditions will persist over the next 24 hours.
A MeT official said a fresh western disturbance is currently affecting the region, resulting in moderate to heavy rain across the plains, including Srinagar, Ganderbal since afternoon. The prevailing weather activity is expected to continue during this period.
Higher altitude locations such as Gulmarg and Sonamarg are likely to witness moderate snowfall. Gusty winds, along with thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms, are also expected in some areas, the official said.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif stated that snowfall is likely in higher reaches, while middle-altitude areas may receive light to moderate snowfall over the next 24 hours.
