The Mahatma Gandhi national rural Employment Guarantee act (MGNREGA) employees association Monday urged the rural development Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar to hike the salary of staff appointed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NGNREGA).

President MGNREGA association Kashmir Shahnawaz Hussain urged the state govt to look into matter and see the plight of grass root level MGNREGA  Technical Assistants /JE’s. ‘The consolidated pay structure of these employees was fixed taking into consideration the pay of the government servants prevailing during Vth pay commission with no provision for TA or DA. During VIth pay commission the salaries of government employees have been increased manifold but the MGNREGA workers did not get any hike in their salary,’ Hussain in his statement. He added that at present the pay of MGNREGA employees was not enough to meet the daily expenses and requirements of their families keeping in mind the high cost index of essentials, standard of living and difficult geographical conditions prevailing in the state.

People are serving in the state for MGNREGA as Technical Assistants or engineers, the association demands to raise salary of Technical Assistants/Juniors engineers   (529 TA/JE in the State) from Rs. 8 thousand per month to Rs. 16500 per month as par with the other parts of the country.

The association also urges the Rural development Minister to approve 12 days of casual leave, 180 days of maternity leave, 7 days of paternity leave while Transport Allowance (TA) and Dearness Allowance (DA) to the NREGA employees on actual basis  as per state government norms, redesign ate Technical Assistants as Junior Engineers as per the Circular no 15-RD- NREGA of 2010 ,dated 14-12-2010 contractual statis as par with the state Government  .

It is pertinent to mention here that the state government contractual employees, engineers NHRM contractual employees are getting better salaries than employees working under MGNREGA as MGNREGA brings Laurent to the state as state receives award for better implementation of NREGA in the state

The Association also urge the government to stop sending Je’s from others departments on deputation as now RDD has cream of Engineers, which is now the asset for department. The Association also demanded to guide lines to regularize the employees working under MGNREGA.
