Mid day meals cook association of Islamabad area held a protest demonstration outside local DC office against authorities for ‘denying’ those wages for past two years.

The protestors who are working as cooks in different government run schools to prepare midday meal for school children alleged that they have not received the salaries for past two years.

The protestors had come from different villages and town of the district including
Dooru, Qazigund, Verinag, Vailoo and Larnoo for protest against the government’s failure of releasing their wages pending since 2014.

On one hand government is asking us to work for night duties, on the other hand they don’t give us wages, said a protestor.

A female worker who has come from Vailoo village to join protests said she has no one at home except for little kids and she is worried about them. “Government’s callous approach towards our issue is making our life hard,” she said.

The workers are paid a monthly salary of Rs 1000/- which the workers say is extremely low.  “We cannot manage our expenses at home on this amount,” said another protestor.

The protestors appealed the district administration to meet their “genuine” demands immediately otherwise they will be forced to take tougher measures
