Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) spokesman Saturday termed the decision of the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) of snapping telephone lines of their offices by BSNL as “unfortunate” and “deplorable”.

The connections of Nigeen office and residence of AAC chief and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq bearing phone number 2414229, Anjuman-e-Awqaf  Jamia Masjid Srinagar office bearing phone number 2477158 and AAC headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal bearing phone number 2429813 reportedly remain snapped for the for the past seven months.

The spokesman issued a statement saying “since the house arrest of the Mirwaiz in July 2016 and his subsequent arrest, all these important telephone lines were snapped without citing any reason and despite repeated reminders, the BSNL authorities failed to restore the telephone lines or give any justification for the snapping of these telephone lines.”

The statement added that mobile phones of the functionaries have also been made dysfunctional by blocking the IMEI code of the mobiles.

The AAC spokesman said in the statement, “due to snapping of these lines, not only the work of the officials of three organisations – AAC, Anjuman-e-Awqaf and APHC had been affected but it had put but the general public also to a lot of inconvenience as they could not communicate with these offices.”

Terming this attitude of BSNL as “irresponsible” and “impartial”, the spokesman called for immediate restoration of all these phone lines.
