Mild Earthquake of Magnitude 2.4 Strikes JK’s Kishtwar

   

SRINAGAR: An earthquake of magnitude 2.4 struck Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir at 5:14 am IST, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor, at a depth of 5 km, was recorded at Latitude 33.18 N and Longitude 75.89 E.

Stronger tremors were also reported in Afghanistan (magnitude 5.9) and Bangladesh (magnitude 2.9) early Wednesday morning.

The tremors were felt in various parts of Kashmir, including north and central areas, where residents reported moderate shaking lasting only a few seconds. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received from the region.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake was located about 190 km northeast of Kabul, 327 km northwest of Islamabad, and 343 km south-southeast of Dushanbe. The tremors also affected areas around Gulmarg, which lies 397 km west-northwest of the epicentre, and Srinagar, located 428 km in the same direction.
