SRINAGAR: In an ongoing effort to address drug trafficking, police carried out an early morning raid in Balole Khad, Gujjar Basti, under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahmana in District Samba. The operation, led by the SDPO Bari Brahmana and the SHO, aimed to identify and detain individuals linked to the local drug network, including those involved in a recent assault on a police party in the same area.
Police conducted a search of several Gujjar Kullas in the locality, which has come under attention for drug-related activity. This follows a prior incident in which suspected drug peddlers attacked officers during an attempted arrest. That encounter resulted in injuries to SHO Pushpinder Singh, Sub-Inspector Arar Mirza, and a police head constable.
According to official sources, the raid was based on intelligence indicating the continued presence of persons associated with drug trafficking. While police have not released details regarding arrests or seizures from the operation, they confirmed that it was part of an ongoing effort to counter drug distribution in the area.
Residents have raised concern about the rise in drug use, particularly among the youth. Authorities have restated their intention to address the issue and take legal action against those involved. [KNT]
