Srinagar: An army man and a militant were killed in the ongoing gunfight in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Tuesday.
Army spokesperson Col R K Pandey confirmed that an army soldier and a militant have been killed in the ongoing gun-battle at Kund-Qazigund in Kulgam district. The operation is going on, he added.
Government forces engaged militants in two different places in south Kashmir this morning, following inputs about presence of militants there.
The official said that a gun battle started at Kund – Qazigund in Kulgam district during a search operation in wee hours when militants fired upon the government forces. One army man and a militant were killed in the operation, which is still going on.
The second encounter began in the forests of Laam -Tral area in Pulwama district as government forces detected suspicious movement of militants. As the troops laid cordon, they came under heavy fire from the hiding militants, resulting into an encounter. There weren’t any reports of casualty till this report was filed.
Meanwhile, internet services were snapped in major parts of south Kashmir and parts of north Kashmir.
