Indian Army on Tuesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Gurez sector of Bandipora district in northern part of Kashmir.

One suspected militants was killed in the operation, while two to three others are believed to be trapped. The encounter is still under way, reports said. Three weapons have also been recovered.

An official said that a group of six militants at around 11:30 pm tried to sneak into this side of LoC. “Army personnel of 13 Sikh regiment noticed the movement. The militants fired at them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” officials said.

They said the intermittent firing continued till 6 am in the morning. “A body of militant was recovered. Another was believed to be injured. Further search operation is going on,” he added.
