Police have confirmed that one militant was killed in Ladou-Khrew belt where they had cordoned off a vast stretch. The “encounter” follow a series of shots that were fired from inside the cordoned belt.
“One militant is killed,” a senior police officer privy of the developments said. “We have the information that he is a foreigner but we still are trying to get his identity.”
The officer said that he was told there were two militants. “I feel the other one has given the security forces a slip and has escaped,” the officer said. “But the cordon is still there so there is a possibility of getting him again.”
After receiving reports of militant movement, police said the army had laid a cordon of a particular mountain stretch during the day. They were scanning the area when a few firing shots were heard. This has later led to the encounter.
Security forces were highly active in the belt for last few days. They had opted for surprise road checks and were manning various road nakas as well. It was not immediately known if the hyper-active situation was because of militant presence in this belt.
