After banning Abhaya – Muslim female dress – inside its Athwajan campus, the DP Dhar Trust run Delhi Public School issued a one line statement on the controversy.

Notably, a female teacher, who taught students from Class 8th to 12th for last three months at DPS, resigned from her job after she was banned from wearing Abhaya inside the school campus.

The issue snowballed into a controversy with students boycotting classes and exams.

The state government, on the floor of state legislature, expressed its dismay over the behaviour of DPS and said, “it was a serious issue.”

“Kashmir is not France,” Government spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, said.

Kashmir’s resistance leadership also condemned the act and termed the DPS action as “interference in to religious matters”.

However, on Sunday evening at 6:21, DPS issued a one line statement reading, “Delhi Public School Srinagar Management apologises for unintentionally hurting the sentiments of people.”

Pertinent to mention here, France, a European Union member, has banned Abhaya/Hijab in public. Whoever wears it in public pays fine, according to rule implemented by France.
