A militant was killed in an ongoing encounter at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday morning, police said.
Taking to social networking site Twitter, Police wrote, “01 #terrorist #killed. #Arms & ammunition recovered. #Identity & affiliation being ascertained. #Search continues (sic).”

The gunfight started after a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam late last night following inputs about the presence of some militants.
As the joint team of forces intensified the searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces triggering an encounter.
Meanwhile, mobile internet service was suspended in the entire Budgam district.
