A suspected militant lost his life during a brief gun fight in Kawni area of Awantipora tehsil in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police sources told CNS that after receiving inputs about the presence of three militants in Kawni village of Awantipora, forces laid a cordon of the hamlet. “During the cordon and search operation, the holed up militants lobbed grenades on the search party prompting the government forces to retaliate. During the brief gun fight one militant died while two others managed to flee from the spot,” he said and added that reinforcement were rushed to the spot and a search operation launched to nab the militants who escaped.
He identified the slain militant as Jahangir Ahmed Ganaie, a resident of Koil Pulwama. Further, reports said that Ganaie had joined Lashkar-i-Toiba some twenty days ago.
